nice! what kind of times per frame are you getting in OS X?
Between 35:30 -38:00 mins depending if I am using it/leave stuff open and running. It's like 2 mins faster in Windows.:(

I'm not so sure about that one, unless it's changed in recent years. My 2008 MP (stock 8-core 2.8, bought right off the shelf) was assembled in the USA, according to the decal on the bottom.
Apple shifted to Foxconn as their sole ODM for the MP in 2009.Not sure this is universally true. I've purchased a personal CTO 12-core last year, and 3 more for business use this year, and all of them were "assembled" in Shenzhen (which really amounts to what exactly, popping in 5870s and upping the base 2.66 to 2.93s in two cases). <-- not done in USA though, tracking just showed direct hop to Anchorage, and delivery, in all cases.
I'm going by what I've seen and had access to in recent years. Either you experienced an exception rather than the general rule, such as insufficient stock at the CTO facility (IIRC, they've even used spare parts to build an entire machine to get an order shipped in one instance I'm aware of), or they're shifting away from the previous methodology in favor of using Shenzen for all of it due to the cheap labor (this wouldn't surprise me actually).
The fact there are CTO facilities located in both the US and Ireland are a shock to me, due to the labor costs manufacturers complain so bitterly about.

My iPhone 4, converted to white ( http://twitter.com/#!/JasperJanssen/status/54944265821880320 ) had exactly one issue after the conversion -- continuous false positives on the proximity sensor. I resorted eventually to scraping the paint away over it, but I still need to get a neat finish on there.
I wonder if the problem with the paint wasn't that it was more reflective to IR than it should be, rather than other reflectivity issues. I could see proximity sensor lighting issues being garbled into camera flash lighting issues and thickness of paint issues fairly easily.

Oh stop whinning. You know deep down there were way to many people using the discount when they should not have been. The policy just falls back on what they previously did years ago with the discount. Dang, it wasn't long ago that you had to have it shipped to the school. Come on, look at what some university bookstores are doing now before you can buy Apple software at discount.
I don't blame them. It makes it tougher for those whom need the hardware but this has gone on long enough. It's three hundred flippin' USD, and you get enough upgrades for that. Suck it up and work a few hours of overtime for a couple weeks.

Are people as outraged by this leak as I am? I can't believe it. He just stole Steve's thunder at a later secret event. This will end up costing Apple the element of surprise and the impact of a special Steve announcement. We've got to punish Lion's Gate somehow. if i'm paying for a digital subscription, there's no reason why i should also have to look at ads.
i can see why there are ads for a print edition, due to printing costs, paper, and shipping, but none of those exist for a digital edition.

You aren't paying for the magazines -- the advertisers are. You're paying only a small part of the cost of creating the magazine. Delivering it digitally doesn't reduce costs for the content of the magazine -- just for its distribution. A writer isn't going to produce the story for free just because you have a digital subscription.
That said, they should be offering the magazines at a significantly lower cost to digital subscribers, not making you pay the same amount while preventing you from seeing ads. WTF would I want to get a photo magazine for and then not see the ads for cameras, lenses, and accessories?

Why is it that they charge $50 for just streaming? Would retailer get mad if they under cut the price to just get a digital copy. The profit margin got to be so much more then actually producting a box, materials, ect, and cutting a retailer on the take. So why not make the price $25-$30. I see amazon has it for $45 along but some lag time for shipping.

What looks amazing on that video because it is 2D is actually a not very convincing effect. The problem is, that the display is NOT a 3D display. Don't get this wrong, there is no 3D functionality built in the iPad 2 whatsoever, so both of your eyes will see the same picture, so that you won't think that this is 3 dimensional at all.
I could not disagree more. There have been plenty of occasions when I've been playing a video game and I've moved my head to try to get a better viewing angle. For interactive applications (games/apps) I think this is significantly better than stereoscopic 3D.

Just curious on what everyones process at BB was. I walked in and signed a sheet of paper with barcodes and a picture of the iPhone 4. I paid 50 for a GC and they put my name down on a list for a 9am appointment on launch day. I just want to see if BB has the same procedures everywhere else.
Mine was exactly the same, except they did not schedule an appointment for me. Rather, they just told me to stop by the store on the 24th to pick up my phone.

It's interesting how large the magnitude of disconnect between the planned purchase estimates and the actual marketshare is for Macs (e.g.. 17-18% of people planning to buy computers state they will get a Mac, but only 5-7% actually do). In contrast the numbers later for HP seem relatively close to their actual marketshare numbers.
They don't offer an interpretation, but one tempting one is that people who are very strongly considering getting a Mac get dissuaded as they get immediately close to purchase, to a much greater extent than PC buyers.

Remember what I said earlier about the earthquake in Japan causing parts constraints for the new iPhone 5--if the earthquake had not occurred, it's likely that the iPhone 5 would have been formally introduced at WWDC and will hit retailers in early July 2011.
But now, since Apple will need to scramble for alternate parts suppliers, Apple will now likely turn WWDC into a show previewing the final version of MacOS X 10.7 ("Lion") and possibly introducing to the public for the first time iOS 5.0, which may have a heavily revamped interface.
Don't be surprised that Apple--with its revamped release schedule--will now schedule a really big press event as Moscone Center in San Francisco in either the third or fourth week in September 2011 to unveil not only the 5G iPod touch, 7G iPod nano and (maybe) a new iPod shuffle, but the new iPhone 5. The event will (in my opinion!) also mark the public rollout of iTunes 11.0 and iOS 5.0; indeed, the 5G iPod touch will come with iOS 5.0 already loaded.

It should be an option, definitely.
But, if you check Activity Monitor, System Memory tab, you can see how much has actually been swapped out. On my system, which has been up almost 3 days, it says 80KB. Even though it says I have 4MB of swap file 'in use,' and have 478MB of swap-ins. The discrepancy is likely partially due to executable code, which doesn't get swapped; it just gets thrown out, and reloaded from the executable file if needed. My actual swapfile is 64MB as allocated on disk.
So, if you do have enough RAM, OS X doesn't appear to be over-eager in writing to the swapfile to an extent that an SSD would have any reduced lifetime. But there is probably plenty of other places to look, such as temporary files, needless rewriting of large sections of data, web browser caches, etc.
Unfortunately I cannot remember where I read this (believe it was Anandtech) but the fear of burning out any decent SSD is vastly overblown - it would take many years (10?) at 24x7 heavy use to even approach it.
Given the rate at which technology moves forward, I can't envision using any SSD bought today for more than, say, 5 years at the very most.
