80% of the posters in this thread should hand in their man card.

Remember, they are fanBOYS, not men.

I'm completely baffled. I posted earlier in this thread and got no replies, so I'm even more confused than when I posted the first time. Why is it so out of the realm of possibility that the 5th anniversary of the iPod would be the release date for the "True Video" iPod?

Everyone seems to be ignoring this time as a great release date. Yes it's early, but they could do pre-orders to ship before December.

I'd love to be told I'm wrong in this speculation, but it's the "why" I'm wrong I'm interested in most. No one is mentining this date!

Ad feminam attacks aside, I think you may be underestimating the damage this kind of leak will do to Apple. Competitors now have confirmation of Apple's plans and can push for competing deals to be negotiated so that their stores can come out at the same time as Apple's. The leak is an attempt by Lion's Gate to bring more competition into an area that Apple is blazing the trail for. All Mac users should defend Apple and do whatever we can to help the mothership.

Honestly, you are the type of Mac user that makes me embarrassed to be a Mac fan. "The Mothership"? Are you even f'n kidding me? It's a corporation. And if you don't think that competitors have a very good idea of where these deals stand, then you are in need of an eye-opener. It is the consumers who are in the dark, not the industry.

That's all I can say. I will continue on using the Mac platform, and telling those around me what I see are the pluses of it, but you will never see me take things to the level you have, with a battlecry to come to the aid of a large company that certainly doesn't need our help in dealing with a movie company. Good luck to you.

I think they should add a "buy a new mac" button on the crash dialogue that takes you to the online apple store. Maybe even a splash page that says "Old mac crashing too much? Try one of these new babies!"

That'll be a nice Windows BSOD!!

    :D

Wow. Ever care to think that maybe the media has picked up on a wrong technical fact? Not to mention it was never mentioned what facts were wrong.

Do you people just live to work yourselves up without applying any critical thinking?

: Are you betting against internet lingua franca, lack of critical thinking?
    :D: You'll lose.

Hey, Apple fault, this is 21st century baby. Truth never trumps perception of a possible scandal.

It's funny, but wherever I go, I always see people with iPhones. My train, on plane trips between Chicago and NYC, during meetings, etc. I am amazed the number is only 5% - but I guess it's the circles that I am in.

I think we can all agree that Nokia's meat and potatoes has been in dumb phones. They are present in the smart phone market, but this merger if you will with Windows is going to be their attempt to really recreate themselves in a market they were not very successful in.

That's ridiculous. Up until the last few months, Nokia has had the largest share in smartphones worldwide and has done for over a decade. At one point they had Microsoft Windows DESKTOP sized share of the smartphone market.

The Windows Phone move is an attempt to placate the US market where their smartphones never caught on and also in Europe where increasingly the iPhone and Android are taking over also as Nokia, through it's own stupid management has failed to update it's operating systems in a timely manner.

Personally, I think the Windows Phone move is a good move for the USA since it doesn't really matter and a ridiculously stupid move for the rest of the world where Nokia could have toughed it out for a couple more years improving Symbian and MeeGo with Qt as a development platform. Nobody in Europe really used Windows Mobile and I don't see anybody clamouring for Windows Phone either. Nokia's S40 OS is arguably more powerful than Windows Phone 7 and that's a feature phone OS.

Appointee...??? What are you talking about, it's not a position of office!!

Fact is in most places they probably get paid more than the teachers!

What school districts are you dealing with? I have yet to see a IT position that hasn't been filled by some teacher union's or school board member's relative.

You are right though, they make far too much money for the level of idiocy they exhibit.

People have had similar worries about the RFID (radio frequency identification) tags used in passports, subways, and which stores may use to manage inventory. Many of us are walking around with data on us that can be scanned or with information being transmitted from our gadgets.

Most people don't seem to be worried about this type of problem. And even if they were made aware of the small potential risk, they might still choose convenience -- being easy to identify and track when they want it to be easy -- over privacy and safety concerns.

Meanwhile, if researchers regularly point out potential flaws, manufacturers may think a little bit harder about privacy concerns.

Apple told Congress that the GPS info to "analyze traffic patterns and density" (which I too, originally took to be about signals, not navigation) is only sent to Apple every 12 hours. Hardly realtime data.

So right now, it could simply be data collected as test info to help developers more realistically simulate traffic during code testing.

But wouldn't they need to take into account all the other 3G data devices on using the cells at the same time?

I was quite impressed after I saw the presentation via YouTube, before that I also thought it would be some kind of iMovie application.
I come from Avid Media Composer and have dabbled in FCP (I know DVDSP and Motion better than FCP) and can understand the confusion, as FCP X abandons the concepts of current NLEs and makes it more streamlined. I will have to try it first though, at is some kind of paradigm shift. I wonder how Adobe and Avid will react.

The product is undoubtedly real, but announcing it in December, or even at MWSF in January, would be the height of stupidity. They'd miss the Christmas buying season and piss off both the buyers and recipients of new iPods. That's probably 20 million people in the US alone who would be angry with Apple.

The fancy new video iPod should be announced, and begin shipping in volume, in April. That gives plenty of time for Christmas bills to be paid, the novelty of Christmas presents to wear off, and at least 8 weeks in all states before the public schools shut down for summer.

Sadly, this recommendation has a lot of merit. I don't know about the UK, but here in the states, the pre-college school system is systemically boring. Hardly a day goes by that my kids are not skilled-drilled and tested so schools can prove they are "teaching" the kids.

Well here in New Zealand you need to get NCEA levels from high school in order to get any job, so studying to get those NCEA levels is pretty important :)
